Dear Mr. Rahmani,
I saw the message below with the reference to your new book about the
Jews of the Belgian Congo. I am particularly interested in this
community. My grandfather, Charles Aaron OGUS, who lived in South
Africa, went up to the Belgium Congo for some reason (I don't yet know
the reason) between 1925 and 1930. I learned from his death
certificate that he had died in Manono, near Elizabethville, on 5 June
1932. He was only about 46 years old when he died. I don't know the
cause of his death, but believe it may have been in a accident, in
which another Jewish man, Kalman Schwartz also died.
I had also heard that my grandfather may have had business partners
with the name of PTASHEK and JUSTER in Manono/Elizabethville.
Do you have any information about any of these people in your book or
in your research notes? I would be most interested to learn more about
my grandfather's stay in the Belgian Congo.
I was also in touch with Rabbi Moise Levy in Brussels a few years ago.
He had heard of my father's name, but he lived in the Belgian Congo
from about 1938, after my grandfater had died.
I will also be interested in getting a copy of your book --
unfortunately, I don't read French, so would have some trouble with
reading it.
Looking forward to hearing from you, and thanks for any help!
Regards,
Roy O. |
